Based in Victoria, Lee Brothers Fencing is a family business founded by two brothers Jack and Brian Lee to provide quality domestic fencing for residents of Melbourne’s Northern suburbs as well as operating their timber yard in Thornbury in 1948. Subsequently in 1981 three nephews bought the business from their uncles. As kids Damian Lee, Andrew Lee and Tony Wells had all worked in the family business during their school holidays.

Lee Brothers Fencing YardIn 1980 Uncle Jack relinquished the reins of the business and the following year after a 12-month trial, the three nephews formed the new business, which continued to focus on the domestic market.

In 2007 the business moved more into the commercial market supplying fencing for the Dame Phyllis Frost Prison at Deer Park as well as timber noise walls along some of Melbourne’s major freeways. It also established contracts with Lend Lease, John Holland, Chadstone Shopping Centre, The Regional Rail Links and the new T4 Terminal at Tullamarine Airport.

In 2012 Tony retired leaving Damian and Andrew to operate the business. The nephews are both passionate about their involvement in the local community and provide young people with the opportunity to learn and grow their skills. The business also operates an apprenticeship scheme, which is most unusual in an unregulated industry. Additionally they provide undergraduates with the opportunity to grow their skills in the work force. The company is dedicated to supporting the local community with sponsorship of Banyule Football and Netball Clubs as well as supporting Life Education who help teach school children about the effects of drugs.

Looking to the future Damian and Andrew describe how they have become more of a construction company that specializes in fencing, rather than just a fencing company.“We now tend to spend much of our time doing tenders and site meetings, whilst wading through the enormous amount of compliance and specification documentation .We are always innovative and constantly evolving. We never stop looking for something new…that’s what really excites me!” said Damian.
