Profile

Nick Soklev was born and bred in Reservoir. He attended Keon Park Primary School and started playing football and cricket for Keon Park Youth Club in the 70s and 80s and their oval which was conveniently located right behind the family home. At this time he also became a very serious ‘billy cart racer’.

When he left the local High School, at the age of 16, he started working for the State Bank of Victoria. After only three weeks and trying to make an impression at work by dressing well and wearing a suit (his branch manager at Thornbury West told him wearing a suit would make customers think he was ‘acting above his station in life’) not the expected start to his working life. However he eventually spent nine years with the orginisation.

Follow marriage and realised that Nick needed to earn more money to provide for his family and at the age of 24 he purchased a Jim’s Mowing franchise. As lawn mowing was not mentally stimulating he took a job as a used car salesman at Ralph D’Silva Holden in Preston. After a successful nine years of learning all the  “ins and outs” of the motor vehicle business, he decided to buy a take away shop in the local industrial estate. Business was hectic and the hours tougher than he had anticipated so it was back to selling cars and he joined Watson Holden where he progressed over the next 12 years to become Dealer Principal. An opportunity arose for Nick to become one of the owners of the Northern Motor Group who own the entire strip in Grimshaw St Bundoora and have 8 Brands under their umbrella.

The business is now recognised as one of Melbourne’s and Victoria’s leading multi-franchise dealership offering Australia’s most popular new car brands: Nissan, KIA, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Isuzu, Holden, HSV & Renault. At present they do not stock “billy carts” but as Nick explained it all comes down to desire, aspiration & demand!
