The Wheelton GroupThe Wheelton GroupContact: Paul Wheelton, OAM
Paul Wheelton has never been to a job interview in his life. He left school after completing his VCE and started immediately pumping petrol at a Box Hill service station. Soon after starting here he bumped into Bob Ansett who had just started up Budget car and truck rentals. Bob hired Paul to work with him at Budget Rent a Car on condition that he went to university part time and studied business and accounting. Paul passed his degree and progressed on in Budget to become Chief Accountant at head office in 1985.
At this point Bob funded him to buy his first Budget car and truck rental franchise. Paul took to this career change like a duck to water and he has now acquired 12 franchises across Melbourne as well as the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
A lifelong Hawthorn supporter, Paul has been a member of the Hawkes Football Club Board (the Hawthorn seconds team) for 29 years and a Board Member for two years. The Wheelton Group has been operating now for over 30 years in the car and truck rental industry and has in recent years diversified its operations to include resort operation (five properties in Queensland and Bali), general property ownership and management.
The Wheelton Group also focuses on using the wealth generated from its operations in supporting various areas of philanthropy within Australia and overseas. The key focus is on children’s well-being and education. In Bali through the Bali children’s Foundation they support five orphanages as well as supporting 1200 children in remote areas to be able to attend secondary school. Paul has actively sponsored10 local Variety Club ‘bashes’ and six overseas ‘bashes’. Through their involvement in Life Education they assist with the interaction of over 650,000 primary school children in the areas of drug and alcohol education.
Paul’s mission statement is to create wealthy foundations that then pass on the interest to children’s charities.
Congratulations to Paul for his amazing contribution as an every day hero
