Emmanuel Tsesmelis started much of his early life working in the fashion business until ‘the stilettoes and tight dresses just got too much’ After leaving fashion Emmanuel spent a while working as a life coach and realised, to use his own words “You’ve just got to love what you do!”
Five years ago he took 10 months off to find what he really wanted to do. Urban Groove was the 47th business he inspected. “I walked in through the front door and said to my brother who was with me… This is it!”
“That was October five years ago and I haven’t looked back… I just love what I do now” explained Emmanuel.
When Emmanuel took over Urban Grooves, in the heart of Greensborough, it was tired, dirty, had very bad staff and no management expertise or skills. In his first of many 120-hour weeks he started work on giving everything a huge facelift. Someone told him they loved the paint job in the toilets and what was the colour? He explained it was called Nifty.
Now everything is transformed, Emmanuel is working ‘on the business’ and refers to the staff as a family and not a team. Urban Grooves is now the place locals go to any time for great food, quality coffee and genuine friendly service. It is now more than just a café, it provides everything from coffee to full breakfast, lunch and dinner, to late supper, drinks and desserts.
Emmanuel’s head chef has been there for nearly four years and they are still great friends!
