Shane Board started playing drums when he was 12 years old and decided that he would be a professional musician. However when he left school he realised that the market was very limited for drummers, so as a second choice he started as an apprentice carpenter with Johns Valves in Ballarat.
Shane started playing Indoor Cricket and working part time at the Ballarat Indoor Cricket Centre and this lead to a change of career and a full-time job in sports management.
18 months later he moved to Melbourne to manage ‘Bundoora Indoor Sports Centre’.
Eight years later Shane decided to change careers again and set up Triumph Trophies, he moved the business to its current location in Watsonia in 2000 and has been its Owner/Operator for nearly 20 years. The shop very quickly became the ‘go to place’ for the region’s Trophy, Award and Engraving requirements. Subject to the customer’s requirements Shane can provide either Computer Controlled Engraving which is suitable for metals, or Laser Engraving which he uses for timber, plastic, glass, ceramics, acrylic, steel and aluminium.
As his reputation grew he expanded his business to include custom framing, rubber stamps, glass etching, staff name tags, ribbons, sashes, pennants, and sporting memorabilia.
“I’m here to make a living and not a fortune” he explains, however his band the Kopy Katz is making him famous after 11 years playing gigs all over the Northern Suburbs and supporting Bashes for the Children’s Variety Club.
As a professional drummer Shane practices regularly in his back room at the shop!
